Brad has been focused on Bluetooth development with gumstix technology for several years now. He says "Gumstix provides a good basis with a lot of the little details taken care of".
What is your background?
I have bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science. I've had an interest in portable computers and communication that got me working with little computers like the Apple Newton and in interesting operating systems like Minix back in the day and later Linux.
What started your interest in gumstix technology?
I was looking for a small computer with bluetooth and up-to-date Linux
software to do development on audio over bluetooth.
What current projects are you working on?
Bluetooth audio transport using the pulseaudio server; bluetooth access point and server for streaming audio to bluetooth headsets.
What gumstix products are you using in the project?
verdex motherboard, audiostix, lcd display.
Why is gumstix technology the best solution for the project?
I love the fact that I didn't have to buy a $1000+ development kit like I would with virtually everyone else doing embedded products. I was able to get productive right away with a couple of gumstix boards and a serial cable.
It's also important to have an up-to-date Linux kernel for the work I do.
What projects do you have planned for the future?
I would like to be involved with the effort to base an open phone on gumstix tech. It brings all the interesting challenges together, like touch-screen interface, power management, and several kinds of wireless tech.
Will gumstix technology be part of your future plans?
Yes. I expect to see gumstix bring out great add-on boards and advancements to open up the possibilities for more cool projects.
I also hope to use gumstix in embedded contract work. Gumstix provides a good basis with a lot of the little details taken care of.
